Description
In response to a challenge (http://www.lesliesaeta.blogspot.ca/2012/12/thirty-paintings-in-thirty-days.html) I have chosen to use a theme of butterflies from photos I have taken at the Butterfly Conservatory in Niagara Falls, Ontario. I plan to do pen & ink sketches, then paint them with watercolour.
This is Day 8. The Mosaic - Colobura dirce - or Dirce Beauty is found from Mexico to Argentina. It is their habit to rest on a tree trunk, head down, wings erect, and at a glace it is difficult know which way they are facing!

The way the background colors enhance the butterfly's inherent beauty is great, Peggy. Wonderful work!

Your encouraging comment is so much appreciated, Ann! The mosaics are among my favourites... so unique and always so aware of their surroundings, but gracious enough to stay still for photos. ;-)
